Johnny Chiu (Executive Director & President, Chairperson of the Board GSAPP ’06)

Johnny Chiu ‘06GSAPP is the Executive Director & President of the Board of Columbia Alumni Taiwan. He is the founder of JC. Architecture & Design and OUT Scholarship, and is recognized for his fresh perspective and concept-driven work. He is the first Taiwanese designer to win the World Architecture Festival/INSIDE World Interior of the Year, his other accolades include GQ of year, and Red Dot: Best of the Best.

His provocative and unconventional design works have made him a key figure in defining design in Asia and have been often invited on the jury panel of esteem design competitions such as the Frame Award. New York Pratt Prax_IS award & super jury of World Festival of Interiors: INSIDE. Besides, he has given talks at many acclaimed design events and universities, including Japan’s premier design event, DesignArt Tokyo, and the prestigious Royal College of Art in London. His latest adventure includes the train design "Moving Kitchen" for Taiwan Railway, Bloom chair for Kobe Leather, Taipei Fine Arts Museum Store, and many other exciting works featured on CNN, Vogue, Axis magazine, and alike.

Columbia Alumni Taiwan has a history of more than 30 years, spanning across different generational leaders, for his 2nd term, he and the Columbia Alumni Taiwan Board aims to connect alumni internationally, cross generations, cross schools, and into the society, starting with the Columbia Forum in Asia, and GSAPP forum in Taiwan.

Judy Lo (Executive Director & Vice President, GSAPP ’08)

Judy is the Founder and Director of Ecube Design in Taiwan and certified LEED AP and WELL AP, focusing on architectural and interior design and construction consulting and management with specialty in wellness, sustainability and parent-child design. Her prior work experience include museum and fine arts research, architectural and interior design and project management in US and Taiwan.

After obtaining Master of Architecture with traveling fellowship prize from Columbia in 2008, she worked as Project Manager at Jones Lang LaSalle Taiwan for design and construction management for commercial and retail design projects. Judy has been active in supporting and planning events as volunteer for CAA and as board of directors for seed association for several years to promote sustainable future in both network connections and the environment.

Chingyu Yao (Executive Director, SIPA ’03) 

Chingyu is the Director-General of the Secretariat of New Taipei City, the largest city in Taiwan. Prior to that, she served as Executive Secretary to the Taipei City International Affairs Advisory Council and Mainland Affairs Council. She was a career diplomat for over a decade by training and by profession, during which time mainly stationed in US, her work spanned a wide area including the UN, the North American, and the European. In addition, she was for two years at the National Parliament as the House's official interpreter (Chinese-English) and PR officer from 2007 -2009.

She took with her this unique blend of global and local experience to New Taipei City Government in Dec 2018 as a Director General of Secretariat to the Mayor on International Affairs. By publishing first Voluntary Local Review (VLR) in the country in 2019 she successfully raises public awareness on SDGs .She is the only Taiwanese official invited by the UN Habitat to speak on promoting SDG VLR during the 10th World Urban Forum in Abu Dhabi in 2020. in the same year , New Taipei City Wins the Award as the Most Outstanding Sustainable City in Taiwan.

Stanley Ko (Executive Director, CBS ’99) 

Stanley received his MBA from Columbia Business School and is a member of the Family Business Program Advisory Board at Columbia Business School. He is also the president of Ko Hospitality Group, a boutique hospitality management company that operates in the Greater China, Japan, Southeast Asia and USA regions. Ko Hospitality Group focuses on three key business areas: representing established brands, helping nascent brands to grow, and creating wholly new restaurant concepts.

Jeff Ming-Jang Tsai (Executive Director, GSAPP ’96) 

Jeff Ming-jang Tsai ‘96GSAPP has been working in commercial real estate industry for more than 30 years.  He currently works as the Chairman & CEO of GTB Development Corporation, specialized in property investment and asset management, development and operation such as business center, shopping center and serviced apartment.  Meanwhile, he is also the Chairman of Taiwan Council of Shopping Centers and Commercial real estate.

Martin Chiang (Director, SEAS ’98) 

Martin is currently VP of Foxconn Healthcare Business Group and has spent over 15 years in Taiwan and mainland China for business development and private equity. Martin received his master degree in mechanical engineering, worked in telecom industry and extended the experience into emerging market for investment management and his own start-up business. Martin is a longtime volunteer for the alumni club and had served on the board since 2003, he also played an active role in the Ivy League intercollegiate society in Taiwan and had coordinated many successful events including Ivy Ball and Ivy Cup Games.

Zoe Lin (Director, SIPA ’03) 

Zoe is the Anchor of TTV’s prime time news. She is also the host of ” Global Insights,”focused on international news as well as host of a podcast show. As an award-winning journalist, Zoe received the Excellent Journalism Award, known as Taiwan’s Pulitzer Prize twice, for her coverage of the major earthquake in Christchurch in New Zealand, 2011, and her live broadcasting focusing on the launching of SpaceX‘s rocket Falcon Heavy which carried Taiwan’s satellite Formosat 7 on June 25, 2019.

Zoe has covered numerous world-renowned figures as well as local entrepreneurs and famous entertainers. She also interviewed many of Taiwan’s prominent politicians including President Tsai Ing-wen and former President Ma Ying-jeou. Zoe started her TV journalism career with TTV in 2003, right after graduating from the School of International and Public Affairs(SIPA) at Columbia University.

Frank Wang (Director, SEAS ’96) 

Frank A.Y. Wang completed both BS degree in Electrical Engineering and MS degree in Operations Research from Columbia University in four years. At Columbia, he was University Senator, Class President, and President of Kandel Students Alumni Association. He continues to volunteer for Columbia since graduation. He is Co-Chair of Columbia's Alumni Representative Committee (ARC) for Taiwan, UAE, and Ghana. He is a member of Columbia's Entrepreneurship Advisory Board (EAB). Prior to founding Athena Capital, he worked for Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse, Citigroup, and Goldman Sachs. He is Assistant Professor at National Chengchi University's Graduate Institute of Development Studies (GIDS),

Winston Hsu (Director, SEAS ’07)

Dr. Winston Hsu is the CTO & Vice President at MobileDrive, a joint venture between Foxconn and Stellantis, and a Professor at National Taiwan University. He received Ph.D. (SEAS’07) from Columbia University, New York. Dr. Hsu is an active researcher dedicated to advanced technologies in computer vision, machine intelligence, autonomous driving, and next-generation automotive solutions. He is the Founding Director for NVIDIA AI Lab (NTU) in 2016. He was a visiting scientist at Microsoft Research Redmond (2014) and IBM TJ Watson Research Center (2016). He is the co-founder for thingnario, an AI/IoT startup for renewable energy. He was a founding engineer and R&D manager at CyberLink Corp. He is proud to be a Christian, a marathoner, a triathlete, and a father of three.

Jenny T.Y. Ling (Supervisor, GSAPP ’88) 

Tzen-Ying Jenny is a licensed architect who combines her position as the leader of the CReS Lab and Associate Professor in Resilience Thinking at Tamkang University. She practiced in New York after graduating from Columbia University; after moving to Taiwan, Tzen-Ying worked with the central government and held position as the client rep in various large-scale development projects. Following this she founded her practice AJL which explored and designed small to large scale projects. She has been invited as a jury critic, lecturer and tutor in numerous institutions.

Tzen-Ying is currently based in Taipei where her practice and research received several design awards and accolades. Her work is focused on the resilience integration in the design process. She is best known for projects, 921 memorial and “Green Elf” series; she is currently developing an interdisciplinary model of “Living lab” modular system as founding partner of Origo Workshop.

Yen-Ling Chen (Supervisor, GSAPP ’03)

Yen-Ling, registered architect in New York State and LEED AP, is the co-founder of Yen Partnership Architects in Taipei. Her multi-disciplinary design firm has won numerous design awards and competitions in both interior and architecture. Aside from the commercial projects, the recent projects also include several public building projects in Taipei, Hsinchu and Taichung, such as public housing and museums. The firm is actively participating public event and exhibitions exploring the social value that a design firm could contribute to the society. She also dedicates her time teaching as visiting lecturer in several universities in Taiwan. Prior to the establishment of her own design firm, she has wide range of international architecture and real estate experiences in Japan, US and China.

Mike Ma (Director, GSAS '02)

Mike earned his master’s degree in statistics from GSAS in 2002. In 2003, Mike co-founded the Global Mall, a shopping mall developer and operator. He is now the chairman of Kindom Group, a public listed real estate group specializes in development, construction, and property management across Taiwan.

Ted Shih (Director, SEAS ’11)

Ted has more than 10 years work experience in hardware, software and finance development. He is the CEO and co-founder of Teletrx Co., the company focusing on IC design in Semiconductor and Telecom industry. Before, He worked in one of the pension fund in US and helps manage 10 billion fund for 2 years. He is also the volunteer in NATEA(North America Taiwanese Engineering & Science Association) to promote science and technology, and to provide management and leadership training opportunities for overseas Taiwanese in U.S. and Canada, and their community at large. His interests including movie, tennis and food.

Charlie C.T. Chang, (Director, SEAS ’99)

Charlie is the Co-Founder and CEO of Ally Logistic Property.  The company has established itself as a leader in the warehousing industry, operating not just within Taiwan, but also regionally in South East Asia. Before his entrepreneurship, Charlie was the general manager of a well-established construction company which developed various schools and hospitals in Taiwan.

Derek T.C. Sun, (Director, Law ’09)

Derek T.C. Sun is the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Innovatus Law, all members of which are graduates of top law schools in Taiwan and the U.S. with many years of practice experience in renowned business law firms in Taiwan and abroad. He has extensive experience in corporate, construction, government and regulatory litigation, as well as in commercial dispute resolution. Apart from his professional career, he worked with many other Columbia alumni to establish Columbia Alumni Golf Team and a book club “Reading Society,” both of which has lasted for around a decade.

Chung-Liang Chien (Supervisor, GSAS ’95)

Chung-Liang is a faculty at College of Medicine National Taiwan University since 1995. He works for Taiwan academic society actively and had been elected as the President of the Association of Anatomists of R.O.C. (2010-2014) and the President of the Taiwan Society for Stem Cell Research (2013-2017). He served as the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology in Taiwan government (2014 – 2016). Currently, he served as the CEO of the Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry in Taiwan to promote the international collaborations for digital health and bio-industry.

Jack Chih-Yuan Hou CC06 (Supervisor, CC ’06) 

Jack double majored in East Asian Languages and Culture and Political Science. He received master’s degree in Regional Studies at Harvard University. He is now serving as the Vice President of Universal Cement Corporation and Director in affiliated companies such as Tainan Spinning, China Himent and Lioho Machinery.

Peggy Wang (Supervisor, Journalism 1998)

Peggy has had a career in media/journalism. She is Taiwan's first English news anchor and was a former correspondent for CNN and CNBC Asia. Peggy does a lot of charity work which has brought her annually to conferences at the United Nations and have met with the Crown Princess of Norway, a princess of Monaco, a princess of the Middle East and top women leaders. She has been the Taiwan ambassador for Women's Entrepreneurship Day, Taiwan advisor for Girl Up (a UN foundation campaign to empower women), a member of Zonta, the Taipei International Women's Club and Welcome to Taiwan Club.

Peggy is the founding President of both the Barnard Club of Taiwan and the Seven Sisters Club of Taiwan. She received her BA from Barnard College of Columbia University and her masters from Columbia Journalism School, as well as an executive MBA from the University of Southern California.

June Chen (Supervisor, TC ’99)

June is assistant professor in the Graduate Institute of Educational Policy and Leadership at Tamkang University in Taiwan. She received her master in Counseling Processes from the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University in 1990 and her Ed.D. in Organization and Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1999. June has been a volunteer for CAA since 2000 and has served on the board since 2011. .In addition, June also serves as the Alumni Area Network (AAN) Representative on the Regional and Affinity Group (RAG) Committee of Teachers College Alumni Council. Her recreational interests include traveling, performing arts, movies, and reading.

Cary Chen (Supervisor, CBS ’02)

Cary has 20 years experience working in Taiwan’s high-tech industry and also in his family business—JC Grand Corporation. He received his MBA from Columbia Business School. He now serves as an independent Director for Macnica Galaxy and also oversees a Venture Capital Fund. He was the captain of Columbia Alumni Golf team in Taiwan and had coordinated the Columbia Golf Open in Taiwan.
